The Morgan Dollar was synonymous with the "Wild West" of the United States of America.  During the late 19th Century the coin played an influencial role in the activities in this notorious part of America, where the likes of Wyatt Earp, Billy the Kid and Jesse James were present.

Struck in 900/1000 Silver, the Morgan Dollar was originally minted to soak up the surplus of silver being mined in Nevada. Minted between 1878 and 1921 the coins were recalled by the US Government and melted down in 1921 when the final Morgan Dollar was struck.

Featuring the US Eagle on the reverse and the head of Liberty on the obverse, the coin was the work of British Engraver George T. Morgan. Each one was 38mm in diameter and contained 26g of US-mined silver.
